In “30 Days to Understanding the Bible”, Max Anders says,
…a knowledge of geography can give perspectives about the events of the Bible.
It is helpful to know the names, locations and relative positions of important places.
Otherwise, we skim over information without comprehension or visualization,
and this makes the Bible less interesting and less easily understood.
He goes on to say that much of the Bible is history and in order to understand history, one must understand geography. In this chapter, one thing the student will learn are the bodies of water in the Biblical regions. I found this information very practical and helpful. Particularly the connection between the Sea of Galilee, the Jordan River and the Dead Sea. (Now…if I could only get to see these wondrous bodies of water in person one day.)
How have you found the study of Biblical geography helpful?
